End of Support Looms for Microsoft Dynamics AX Versions

There have been a lot of comments online about the fact that AX 2009, AX 2012, AX 2012 R2, and AX 2012 R3 are nearing their end of support. If you aren’t aware of this, Microsoft has numerous articles on the end of extended support for Dynamics AX. Below is summary of versions and their support end dates.
But what does an organization gain by upgrading besides just staying in the support window? Below are several things that can add tremendous value to your business when you upgrade, giving your business more ROI.
In the Cloud. All the hype about the cloud is not just hype. Not having to maintain servers and, just as importantly, not having to have those skillsets in house can add up to a big cost savings for an organization. Having performance issues with your database? Now you do not have to solve them yourself; Microsoft brings to the table all their Azure SQL knowledge to help with performance and database maintenance. Always worrying about failover and redundancy for your data? Now Microsoft’s massive Azure infrastructure handles that for you.
Truly Cross Platform. Run Dynamics 365 (D365) on a Microsoft Surface or Mac? Both work well now. The browser-based architecture runs on web browsers Chrome, Edge, Safari, and others. You can even use an Android device, for the mobile device in your warehouse, as an RF device.
Quick Mass Data Entry. D365 is now tightly coupled with Excel via a free add-in from Microsoft. This allows not only easy data exports like you had in 2009 and 2012, but you can now use Excel to upload a lot of your data to D365 as well. Use copy and paste, find and replace, vlookups, and all your other favorite Excel tools to help quickly input data. The Excel D365 add-in runs the data through all the business logic too, checking for errors and keeping the data clean in your ERP.
Tightened Up Data Integrity. Remember in AX 2009 when you had no idea how that record in the database became orphaned or corrupted? Microsoft has put a lot of effort into D365 making sure this does not happen anymore. This saves your IT staff a lot of time researching issues because D365 has prevented them before they happen.
Many More New Features. Microsoft continues to add new features to D365 monthly. This is particularly true in two of the areas Strabo specializes in: Planning (MRP) and Advanced Warehousing. For example, MRP is getting a major facelift to drastically increase performance and reach into AI for better results. Advanced Warehousing now supports true crossdocking, catch weight, better replenishment and replenishment planning, a new mobile device application, and true multi-threading for better performance. And these are just a few examples of the many hundreds of features added to D365 since its release across all functional areas.
The Latest ISV’s. The ISV community has moved to D365, with most of the new features and functionality only being developed for D365. For instance, Strabo’s Price Plus ISV module is available only for D365. Many of these ISV’s are taking advantage of the new technical features only accessible in the latest version. In addition, because D365 is always continuously upgraded, ISVs are innovating and upgrading at the same pace. More information on how Strabo’s Price Plus can save you time managing your pricing and trade agreements, can be found on our Price Plus page.
Easier Integrations. D365 is easily linked and connected to Power Platform. Power Platform is a great tool for integrations, allowing “code free” integrations to be created.
